About us

A free website that works out what it really costs to own a car in Spain: not just what it's worth, but also what you spend each month on fuel, insurance, taxes, ITV, servicing and tyres.

What this site is

The idea is simple: before you buy a car, or to find out whether yours is costing you a lot, you can see what it really costs each month, item by item, with public data and without signing up.

Today it covers 648 models and 9.498 versions, has 27 free tools (petrol stations, road tax, ITV, fines, speed cameras…) and is available in Spanish, Catalan, Basque and English.

We don't sell cars or insurance, we are not a dealer, a garage or an insurer, and we are not an official body either. The figures are estimates to guide you, not a quote.

Where the data comes from

From official and open sources, and from published studies where there is no official data:

  • European Environment Agency: official fuel consumption, emissions, power and weight of every car registered.
  • Ministry for the Ecological Transition: the price at every petrol station in Spain, which we update often (latest: 15/10/2026).
  • Tax office: new car prices and fiscal horsepower from its official tables.
  • Local councils: road tax bylaws from 61 municipalities.
  • Regional governments: ITV inspection fees in 19 regions and autonomous cities.
  • DGT and OpenStreetMap: speed cameras, V16 beacons and garages on the map.
  • Comparison sites and published studies: to estimate insurance and how much value a car loses over the years.

The methodology explains the formulas and assumptions behind each cost item, and the Data page has the rankings with their sources.

How we calculateCar data in Spain

How we work

  • Public data, with its source. Every page says where each figure comes from and when it was updated.
  • The same assumptions for every car. That's why they can be compared with each other.
  • Estimates, not quotes. In the calculator you can replace each figure with your own: what you pay for insurance, your mileage or your council.
  • If there's a mistake, we fix it. Let us know and we'll look into it.

How it is funded

The site is free and you don't need to sign up. To pay for the server and the time it takes to keep the data up to date, it may show advertising and affiliate links: if you sign up for or buy something through one of those links, the company pays us a commission and it costs you nothing extra.

They are always labelled, as «Sponsored space» or «Advertisement · Affiliate link». And they don't change the calculations: every car is calculated with the same formula, and nobody can pay to rank higher or to change a figure.
