What's your car worth?

What you'd get selling to a private buyer or leaving it at a dealership, what it's worth to the tax office (Hacienda) and the ITP the buyer would pay. Without giving your details.

What condition is it in?

Choose the make and type the model: we'll look it up in the official tax office (Hacienda) table.

Here you'll see what it's worth

Choose the make and type the model and version. With that we look up its new price in the tax office (Hacienda) tables and work out what it's worth today.

How we calculate it

Two values that have nothing to do with each other

The market value: what you'll actually be paid

We start from its new price in the tax office (Hacienda) tables, add back the average discount (14 %) to get to the list price and apply what a car of its age keeps in the Spanish market. Then we adjust it for engine (hybrids hold their value better and electric cars less so), mileage (2% for every 10,000 km above or below 15,000 a year) and condition.

It's an average: some models hold their value much better (and others worse). To fine-tune, compare with listings from the same year and with similar mileage.

The tax office (Hacienda) value: the one used for taxes

It's the new price of your version in the official table (Orden HAC/1501/2025) times a fixed percentage depending on its age. It doesn't depend on mileage or condition. It serves as the minimum base for ITP when you buy from a private seller and for Inheritance and Gift Tax (Sucesiones y Donaciones) if you inherit the car or are given it.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is my car worth to the tax office (Hacienda)?+

Hacienda (the tax office) doesn't look at listings: it takes your version's new price in its tables (Orden HAC/1501/2025) and multiplies it by a percentage depending on age: 100 %, 84 %, 67 %, 56 %, 47 %, 39 %. At 12 years or more it stays at 10%. That's the value it uses for ITP and for Inheritance and Gift Tax.

Why is the tax office (Hacienda) value so different from the market value?+

Because its table drops very quickly: at 10 years it leaves the car at 17 % of its price. In Spain used cars are expensive and a 10-year-old car sells for quite a bit more. With young cars it's the other way round: Hacienda can ask for more than you pay.

How much ITP (transfer tax) does the person buying my car pay?+

Between 4 % and 6 % depending on the region, on the higher of two amounts: the contract price or the tax office (Hacienda) value. If you state a price lower than that value, Hacienda will claim the difference. If a dealership buys it, there's no ITP.

How much less will a dealership give me than a private buyer?+

We estimate around 18 % less, because they have to prepare it, give at least a year's warranty and make a profit. In return it's quick and you don't have to show the car or do any paperwork.

How much value does a car lose each year?+

Most of all in the first few years. According to Ganvam data, a petrol car keeps about two thirds of its list price at 3 years; a hybrid, a bit more, and an electric car, about half. After that it falls more slowly: at 10 years, around 42 % of the list price.
