If you buy a used car from a private seller and live in the Canary Islands, you pay 5,5 % ITP and the DGT fee of 55,70 €.

The tax
ITP on a used car in the Canary Islands
General rate
5,5 %
14 regions or autonomous cities have a lower general rate and 4 a higher one.
It's paid on the higher of two amounts: what you pay the seller or what the car is worth to Hacienda (your version's new price in its tables times a percentage depending on age). The buyer pays it, in the region where they live.
General rate: 5,5 % (art. 31.1.d)
Special rules in the Canary Islands
- Cars over 10 years old: 40 € up to 1.000 cm³, 70 € up to 1.500 cm³, and 115 € up to 2.000 cm³. With a bigger engine, 5,5 %. (art. 38 ter)
It's filed with the Canary Islands Tax Agency, on form 620, within one month of the purchase.

How much does a change of ownership cost in total in the Canary Islands?+
ITP plus the DGT fee, which is 55,70 € throughout Spain. For a 11.000 € car, 661 € without a gestoría.
Who pays it?+
The buyer, who's the one who has to apply to the DGT for the change within 30 days. ITP is paid in the region where the buyer lives, even if the car or the seller is in another.
