How we work it out: for every day of the last year we compare the average price with the average of its week (that day plus the three before and the three after), so prices rising or falling over the year don't skew it. For each day of the week we take the typical value over 51 weeks (the median), so unusual weeks, such as a tax change, don't count. We only call a day cheaper if it is by 0.2 cents or more and in at least 7 out of 10 weeks.

Where do these prices come from?+
From the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge: every petrol station must report its prices to it, and it publishes them on its petrol station Geoportal. Each day we work out the average of the stations that sell to the public, without weighting by how much each one sells.
Where the data comes from
- Prices from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge: petrol stations must report their prices to it and the Ministry publishes them on the petrol station Geoportal. From 01/01/2024 to 16/10/2026, from the daily history of its REST service; after that, from the prices in force each morning.
- Each figure is the simple average of the public-sale stations selling that fuel, not weighted by how much each one sells. We drop impossible prices (below 75% or above 135% of that province's median that day), which are usually typing mistakes.
- Today's price is this morning's; tomorrow it is replaced by the one in the Ministry's history.
- The calculations (averages, cheapest day, comparison with a year ago) are ours: the Ministry neither reviews nor endorses them.
