How to pay less
Compare a month before it renews
Get quotes from 3 or 4 insurers or comparison sites with the same cover. To leave, give written notice at least a month before renewal.
Ask for your claims history certificate
Your insurer must give it to you free within 15 days. With it, the new insurer recognises your claim-free years.
Pay the year in one go
Splitting it into monthly payments usually carries a surcharge.
Indicative: market averages from comparison sites for your age, years with a licence, claims and area. Each insurer calculates in its own way, and the car, postcode, garage and mileage also count.

Questions
According to CHECK24, the average premium of policies taken out in 2025 was 403 € a year, across third-party, third-party fire and theft, and fully comprehensive. What you pay depends mainly on your age, years with a licence, claims, cover and car.
Because they have more accidents according to insurers' statistics. In Kelisto's data, 18 to 25-year-olds paid about twice what 36 to 50-year-olds did, and those who had held a licence for under 5 years paid about 2.7 times what those with over 20 years did.
It depends on the insurer, but comparison sites talk about 20-30% for one at-fault claim and quite a bit more for two or more. Not-at-fault claims shouldn't raise it. At-fault claims stay on your record for 5 years.
At renewal. To stop it renewing automatically, tell your insurer in writing at least a month beforehand. If they want to change your price, they must tell you two months ahead. Ask first for your claims history certificate so the new insurer recognises your claim-free years.
Rarely. If the car is worth little, the most they'd pay for damage to your own car is small, and the price difference from third-party, fire and theft is gone in a couple of years. With a new or expensive car, comprehensive with excess is usually the middle ground.
